This course is designed to provide the foundation for leadership of excursions into wilderness areas. Students learn personal and interpersonal skills to lead an outdoor adventure group. Students examine leadership theory and issues, acquire group management tools and apply this knowledge to the area of wilderness excursion. Self-awareness and developing sound leadership judgment will be emphasized. Students will learn skills required for a successful expedition including strategies related to gear preparation, selection and organization, route planning, minimal impact camping techniques, clothing selection, and menu planning. Students will explore the history, sectors, trends, challenges and ethical dilemmas of Adventure tourism.
